OUTMemphis

Help us keep our community clean and welcoming!! A clean and welcoming environment starts with all of us. We’re looking for volunteers to help keep the OUTMemphis Community Center area clean, safe, and inviting for everyone who visits. Community Cleanup is an ongoing volunteer opportunity focused on outdoor cleanup and community care. Volunteers may assist with picking up litter, removing debris, tidying outdoor spaces around the center, and helping maintain the grounds. Projects may vary from session to session based on current needs. Whether you join us for one cleanup or return for future opportunities, your support helps create a cleaner and more welcoming environment for our staff, volunteers, neighbors, and community members. Gloves, trash grabbers, and other cleanup supplies will be provided. Location: 892 S Cooper St Time: 2:00PM- 5:00PM

OUTMemphis

Join us for an OUTreach Flyering event that will help us get connected to more people in the Mid-South area. By helping distribute flyers that include our upcoming programming, you’ll help us reach people that may not know about our events, groups, and available opportunities. Volunteers will meet with OUTMemphis staff and other volunteers at different locations around Memphis to distribute flyers including information about upcoming OUTMemphis events and programming. What You’ll Be Doing: Passing out flyers to community members Visiting local businesses Hanging flyers in approved public and community spaces Placing flyers on vehicles where permitted What to Expect: We’ll have multiple OUTreach Flyering opportunities throughout October, so feel free to sign up for one shift or multiple shifts depending on your availability! Flyering will take place in different areas throughout Memphis, including busy parking lots, Overton Park, the Botanic Garden, the Agricenter, and other community spaces. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather, as there will be a good amount of walking during each shift. Specific meeting locations and additional instructions will be provided before each shift.

The Community Health team would love for you to join us for a Day of Service in supporting our community with essential resources and care where they are needed most. During this program we will be offering free testing for HIV, Hep-C, & Syphilis, as well as distributing hygiene kits, clothing, contraceptives/Plan B, and harm reduction supplies to participants ages 18+. If you are certified you can assist with testing. If not we have plenty of other places you can jump in. Get Certified in HIV Testing! Would you like to become certified in HIV testing? This is a great opportunity to receive free professional training and help support HIV testing and outreach in our community. OUTMemphis is offering a Tennessee Department of Health HEAT (HIV Education and Testing) Training for interested volunteers. Once certified, volunteers can assist with HIV testing at OUTMemphis community outreach events. Training Dates: Saturday, October 17th | 9:00 AM–4:00 PM Saturday, October 24th | 9:00 AM–4:00 PM *This is a two-day training. You must attend Both days to become certified.* Additional Details: • Must be 18 or older • Training is completely free • Lunch will be provided both days • Training will be held at Rhodes College campus (more details closer to training dates) Interested? More Info: HEAT is the Tennessee Department of Health's certification program that prepares individuals to provide rapid HIV testing, deliver accurate HIV prevention education, communicate test results, and connect participants to prevention and care services. The training combines classroom instruction with hands-on practice using testing scenarios. For OUTMemphis staff and volunteers, becoming HEAT certified will allow you to provide HIV testing at our Community Health Center and at community outreach events throughout the Memphis area as needed. The training will be led by Cristobal Valdebenito, Director of Community Health at OUTMemphis, and Sam Tubikh, Prevention and Outreach Manager at Friends For All. Certification Requirements: • Attend both training days (attendance is mandatory). • Successfully complete the required testing scenario/practical assessment at the conclusion of the training. • Be 18 years of age or older.

OUTMemphis is currently looking for facilitators to support PRYSM, our youth group for LGBTQ+ youth ages 12–17. PRYSM typically meets on Saturdays from 12–3 PM at OUTMemphis (892 S. Cooper St.), though programming sometimes includes field trips and special events such as trips to the skating rink, the zoo, and larger community events like Silent Disco. Facilitators help: -Co-lead youth group activities and discussions -Support OUTMemphis staff during programming -Assist with sign-ins and general group flow -Help create a welcoming, affirming, and safe environment for youth We’re grateful for any support, but we are especially looking for facilitators who can commit to this role consistently over time, as stable relationships and trusted adults are incredibly important for our youth. About PRYSM: PRYSM is a safe, affirming space where young people can connect with peers, explore identity and self-expression, build leadership and advocacy skills, and participate in engaging activities like art, discussions, workshops, and outings. Youth also have access to support from trained staff and mentors.

The Youth Empowerment Center's Hot Meal Program serves hot meals twice a week for YEC residents, program participants and any other LGBTQ+ visitors to the YEC. Volunteers can support this program in one of two ways: 1. Cooking/Serving the Hot Meal - This role would be assisting staff cook and serve the hot meals at the Youth Empowerment Center. The meal must be large enough to feed 6-12 people. Attendance can vary and leftovers don't last long, so larger meals are also welcome! 2. Providing the Meal via TakeOut - Volunteers who want to support but cannot cook or assist in the meal can also provide the meal via takeout. You would just order the meal from a local restaurant of your choice, and deliver it or have it delivered to the YEC. You would coordinate directly with the YEC staff for this option.
