Certified Overnight Hosts ORIENTATION

The Certified Overnight Hosts position will support the Youth Empowerment Center Emergency Housing Program by monitoring the on-site drop-in center overnight. Schedule & Commitment Shift Time: 11:00pm–8:00am (sleep permitted) Days: Monday–Thursday only Minimum Commitment: 3 months Minimum Shifts: 2 overnight shifts per month *Hosts are always scheduled in pairs Overnight Duties Maintain a calm, respectful presence in common areas Conduct scheduled walkthroughs of common spaces Ensure doors are locked/unlocked per protocol Support adherence to overnight routines (quiet hours, curfew) Contact the on-call supervisor when escalation thresholds are met Document basic overnight notes and observations Certified Overnight Hosts DO NOT: Provide counseling, therapy, or case management Enforce consequences or disciplinary actions Physically intervene in conflicts Administer medications Transport residents Enter resident bedrooms except in a safety emergency Engage with residents on social media or exchange personal contact information Decision-making authority rests with paid staff. Required Qualifications Age 21 or older (preferred for youth programming) Current college student or recent graduate preferred Interest or coursework in social work, psychology, public health, education, criminal justice, or related fields Ability to remain calm and professional in youth-centered environments Willingness to uphold boundaries and follow protocols Ability to work overnight hours responsibly Screening Requirements Criminal background check Completion of required training Signed volunteer agreement and confidentiality statement Required Training (Provided) Certified Overnight Hosts must complete all required training prior to independent shifts: Trauma-Informed Care De-escalation & Conflict Avoidance (verbal only) Boundaries, Ethics, & Dual Relationships Mandated Reporting & Duty to Warn Emergency & Overnight Protocols Total training time: approximately 6-8 hours. Physical & Environmental Requirements Ability to remain awake as needed overnight Ability to conduct facility walkthroughs Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies
